The Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation, at its June Board of Directors meeting, allocated $15,000 of the funds entrusted to it by the old Carson City Tennis Club to initiate the design, planning, and engineering of new tennis courts at Centennial Park.
Once one of the finest tennis facilities in the region, the Centennial Park Tennis Facility suffered from a lack of routine maintenance over the years, which was exacerbated by significant flood damage suffered during the winter of 2016-2017. The result of this damage and neglect is that most of the courts can no longer support serious play. Simple maintenance and patching will no longer suffice, and a total reconstruction of the courts is necessary.
To that end, the Board of Supervisors recently allocated $333,000 to reconstruct 4 of the 6 courts at the facility, and grants are being sought to cover the reconstruction cost of the remaining 2 courts. Donations, like that just made by the Parks Foundation, can be used as a match in support of the grant applications.

In other matters, the Foundation’s Board elected the following officers for 2012-2022: President, David S. Johnson; Vice-President. Gregg Swift; Treasurer, Lori Bagwell, and Secretary, David C. Bugli. Continuing Directors include Paul Martinovich and Melinda Cash.
